This year, starting on the 26th of November, we’re teaming up with free@last, a remarkable Birmingham-based charity, to bring joy to children in need. With a grand Christmas tree set to light up The Cube’s atrium, we’re inviting everyone to join us in this special effort by donating gifts that will be delivered to deserving young ones in our community.
The Meaning Behind the Campaign
Christmas is a time of celebration, love, and community. Yet, for many children in Birmingham, this season can be challenging. At The Cube, we believe in harnessing our position as a community landmark to bring smiles and hope to those who need it most. That’s why we’ve partnered with free@last, an organisation that has spent nearly two decades improving the lives of young people and families in Nechells, Birmingham.
How You Can Get Involved
Starting this holiday season, The Cube will feature a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in our main atrium. This tree is more than just a seasonal decoration – it will be the centrepiece of our gift collection campaign. Here’s how you can participate:
- Collect a Tag: Visit The Cube between 26th of November and 11th of December and pick up one of the tags attached to the tree. Each tag contains a gift wish from one of the children supported by free@last.
- Buy a Gift: Use the information on the tag to purchase a gift that fulfils a child’s wish. This personal touch ensures that each gift is meaningful and tailored to bring joy to the recipient.
- Deliver Your Gift: Return your purchased gift to The Cube’s concierge between 7am and 7pm. The concierge will securely collect all the donated items to ensure they reach free@last for distribution.
- Final Delivery: Once the collection period ends, all gifts will be delivered to free@last, who will distribute them to children and families in Nechells, ensuring that their Christmas is filled with joy and warmth.

free@last’s facility in Nechells is a dynamic space offering a range of activities for children and the community. Highlights include a café open Monday to Friday, sports such as table tennis, karate, and boxing, and a 14-metre high climbing wall—one of the tallest in the Midlands. The centre also features an entrepreneurial hub for fun business activities, a green screen room for film and photography, a design room for creativity, and a recording studio with a DJ booth. The youth club, complete with a pool table and retro arcade games, rounds out the engaging experiences available.
