Team England’s CWG kit

This summer Birmingham plays host to some of the top athletes in the world as the Commonwealth Games take place in the city between 28th July – 8th August. Recently the Team England kit was unveiled and we’re very pleased to share with you that our iconic building has been honoured in its design.
The colour palette for the new kit is red and white, and for the first-time features a cross design. The cross subtly represents St George’s cross, a traditional ensign for England that dates to the 10th century. However, this was only part of the inspiration for the kit’s feature, and the cross pattern is a collaborative expression of multiple Birmingham-based influences.
These influences were unified, it turned out, by our building. Team England explained:
“The cross is also a nod to Birmingham building The Cube, which has an array of geometric shapes on its exterior and takes inspiration from the host city’s jewellery-making tradition.”
Produced by the international sportswear brand Kukri, the revolutionary kit has been collaboratively designed with input from 23 athletes across a range of sports to ensure that the specific needs of each athlete were met.
We’re so excited for the Commonwealth Games and with the countdown now on, we can’t wait to see Team England sporting their new kits inspired by our building!
